Getting Started with the NeuroFediverse Lemmy Instance
Welcome! This page will help you get started with the NeuroFediverse Lemmy instance at your own pace.
There is no requirement to post, comment, or interact immediately. Reading and observing are valid ways to participate.
What Is Lemmy?
Lemmy is a federated link aggregation and discussion platform — similar to Reddit, but decentralized and community-run.
On Lemmy:
- Communities are called communities
- Posts can be links or text
- Comments are threaded
- Content is federated between instances you choose to interact with
NeuroFediverse runs its own Lemmy instance with neurodivergent-friendly moderation and community guidelines.
Creating an Account
- Visit the NeuroFediverse Lemmy instance
- Choose Sign Up
- Pick a username you’re comfortable with
(You can stay pseudonymous) - Confirm your email address
- Read the rules and instance description
If registrations are closed, this is usually temporary.
Before You Post
You do not need to post to belong here.
Many people prefer to:
- Lurk and read
- Subscribe to communities
- Adjust settings
- Learn the culture at their own pace
All of these are valid.
Finding Communities
You can:
- Browse Local communities (hosted here)
- Explore Federated communities from other instances
- Search by topic or interest
If you don’t see a community you want, creating one is allowed — but not required.
Content Warnings & Expectations
Please use content warnings (CW) when posting about:
- Heavy or sensitive topics
- Trauma, abuse, or violence
- Distressing news or imagery
If someone asks you to add a CW, please do so without argument.
This helps everyone regulate their experience.
Interaction & Pace
- You are not expected to reply quickly
- You are allowed to disengage
- Silence is not rudeness here
- Infodumping is welcome where appropriate
Respect boundaries and consent in conversations.
Federation Notes
NeuroFediverse chooses federation carefully.
This means:
- Not every instance is federated by default
- Some content may not be visible here
- This is intentional and values-based
The goal is a safer, calmer experience — not maximum reach.
Getting Help
If something feels confusing or unsafe:
- Check the rules page
- Look for pinned community posts
- Contact the moderation team
Asking questions is allowed.
Final Notes
You do not need to perform, be witty, or constantly engage to be welcome here.
